Technology
To avoid the disadvantages of conventional optics assembly, such as the usage of expensive components and large-scale manual adjustment and assembly, ASKION has developed a semi-automated assembly technology with active adjustment patterns and joining processes.
- Precision joining in a mounting space of 150mm x 50mm x 60mm
- Compact optics and electronics system on ceramic substrates
- Reduction of the mechanical part
- Reduction of human-error factor
- Reduced learning time for new sequences of mounting operation
- Modularized development and manufacturing system
Askion provides the following joining techniques in the field of micro-optical module assembly (MOM):
Laser welding
- We provide a YAG welding laser with a triple fiber exit and a power of 15 J/P. Appropriate materials can be joined to be highly stable and environmentally resistant .
-
advantages:
- High mechanical stability
- excellent long-term stability
- High resistance against environment (moisture of the air, temperature); autoclavable
-
Typical applications:
- PM (Polarization maintaining) fiber coupling of laser diodes
- Free beam diode lasers with excellent pointing stability
- Diode laser for use under difficult environmental conditions
Laser soldering
- We provide a 10W cw IR diode laser for the soldering process. Thus it is possible to melt and re-melt applied solder to achieve a durable connection of the elements to be joined together.
-
advantages:
- Large range of applicable materials (ceramics, LTCC, glass, etc.)
- Excellent long-term stability
- High resistance against environment (moisture of the air); autoclavable
- Combination of electronics and optics (e.g. multi-layer LTCC with electronics integrated in the optical substrate)
-
Typical applications:
- Compact free beam lasers with specific beam shaping and integrated electronics
- Multi-mode fiber coupling of laser diodes in the visible as well as in the IR power range
Adhesive bonding
-
ASKION has experience and knowledge in using adhesives for joining optical assemblies. For this, we use UV curing adhesives and two-component adhesives. We have optimized the adhesive-bonded joints with regard to small misalignments, environmental resistance, and stability.
- Active precision joining < 0,1 µm
- High flexibility of the joints regarding to materials, geometry, bonding gap etc.
- Cost-effective
- Low expenditure of time for preparing and carrying out the adhesive process
-
Typical applications:
- General joining of optical and precision- mechanical elements being independent of the position
- Cost-effective free beam shaped laser modules with reduced pointing and environmental stability
- Joining of beam shaping lens systems
